President Mwinyi steers Zanzibar to greater heights

ZANZIBAR, June 29 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — Pres Dr Hussein Mwinyi has significantly improved the quality of life of Zanzibaris during his four-year leadership.

Immediately after he was sworn in as President of Zanzibar in November 2020, Mwinyi hit the ground running by working on the pledges he made during the campaign, which were also in line with CCM’s 2020-2025 election manifesto.

So far, Mwinyi has recorded a stellar performance in improving the standard of life of the people of Zanzibar.

As promised during the presidential campaign in 2020, Mwinyi has managed to improve infrastructure in the isles by constructing a number of roads, which stimulate economic growth, including pushing for positive transformation in the isles.

Earlier, Mwinyi said his focus would be in transforming lives of the people of Zanzibar. He said: “We need to construct roads in Zanzibar and improving of infrastructure is one of my government priorities.”

As of May, 2024, President Mwinyi’s government had managed to construct a total of 275.9 kilometres of roads in the isles.

According to the CCM election manifesto, the target was to construct 200 kilometres of roads, but so far, the government has built 275.9 kilometres of roads, which is more than 75 kilometres above the target.

“By constructing 275.9 kilometres of roads it means we have fulfilled the promise outlined in the party’s election manifesto of constructing 200 kilometres,” said Pres Mwinyi.

According to Zanzibar Government Spokesperson, Charles Hillary, a total of 30bn/- has been spent on road construction in the isles.

He said the government aims at improving transportation services and accelerate the country’s economic growth.

Mwinyi said: “I cannot stand before the people and ask for their support again if I have not fulfilled my promises. Fulfilling promises is a must, so if you see me here, don’t assume I am resting peacefully at night.”

Under Mwinyi’s leadership, Zanzibar has made significant strides in various sectors, as per CCM’s election manifesto and its 2050 Development Vision.
