Uzbekistan Signs Off On Protocol To Build Nuclear Power Plant

TASHKENT, Jun 29 (NNN-UzA) – Uzbekistan and Russia, recently signed a protocol, on executing a contract for the construction of a small nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.

Recently, a ceremony was held between UzAtom, agency for the development of nuclear energy of Uzbekistan, with Russia’s state nuclear power conglomerate, Rosatom.

The agency stated that, the construction of the nuclear power plant, which is based on a Russian design, will be carried out in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan.

“Work for construction of the infrastructure for the future six-unit nuclear power plant, will begin in months,” the statement noted.– NNN-UzA

The capacity of the facility will be 330 MW, consisting of six reactors with a capacity of 55 MW each. Rosatom will act as the general contractor for the construction, and local companies will also be involved in the construction.
