SHANGHAI (China), June 28 (NNN-ANDINA) — Cosco Shipping Corporation Limited Board Chairman Wan Min on Thursday stated that Chancay Megaport in Peru is the most important construction project that the company currently has.
After his meeting with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, the head of the Chinese company —in charge of said megaproject construction— indicated that they will make every effort to have the port terminal ready in November, when the APEC Peru 2024 Leaders’ Summit will be held.
“We are convinced that the port will become a strong engine for Peru’s economic development and an economic-commercial cooperation model. Once its construction is completed, Chancay will become the most modern and smart port in South America,” he indicated.
Similarly, Wan Min specified that, once the works are completed, a new route between Shanghai and Chancay will be opened up. It will allow for travelling this stretch in approximately 23 days —10 days less than what it currently takes.
“This will greatly strengthen the export of agricultural products, both from Peru and (the rest of) South America,” he added.
The chairman reported that the corporation applies in Chancay the same technology and standards used at China’s Shanghai Port.
“We are convinced that, supported by the (Peruvian) president (Dina Boluarte) and the entire private sector present here, the Chancay Megaport will become an important gateway for Peru and South America, not only to Asia but also to the rest of the world,” he said. — NNN-ANDINA
