Sri Lanka’s Merchandise Export Increased By 9.4 Percent In May

COLOMBO, Jun 27 (NNN-XINHUA) – The merchandise export performance of Sri Lanka recorded an increase of 9.4 percent in May, compared to Apr, Sri Lanka export development board said, yesterday.

Quoting data released by the Sri Lanka Customs, the board said, the merchandise export performance in May amounted to 960.2 million U.S. dollars, which decreased by 5.81 percent, year on year.

The estimated value of services exports for May was 327.35 million dollars, an increase of 21.24 percent over the corresponding period of 2023.

Export earnings from Rubber and Rubber finished products, increased by 5.62 percent to 81.17 million dollars in May, compared to the corresponding month of last year, and from coconut-based products by 2.88 percent.

Export earnings from tea, which made up 12 percent of merchandise exports, decreased by 1.1 percent to 115 million dollars in May this year, compared to the same period of 2023, the board said.– NNN-XINHUA
