LIMA, June 27 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peru on Wednesday afternoon strongly condemned the constitutional rupture (coup d’etat) attempt registered in the Plurinational State of Bolivia.

“Peru supports the (Bolivian) people and the constitutional Government of President Luis Arce. Similarly, it rejects any act that threatens the democratic and institutional order of that country,” the Presidential Office stated via its social media channels.

Likewise, Peru expressed support for institutional efforts to preserve order and the rule of law in the brother country of Bolivia.

Several tanks and heavily-armed soldiers took over the square in front of the Bolivian Executive Branch headquarters Wednesday afternoon, and Army General Commander Juan Jose Zuñiga had threatened to take over the building.

For his part, Bolivian Vice-President David Choquehuanca said that an attempted “coup d’état” against President Luis Arce’s Government was taking place, after a tank forcibly entered the Executive Branch seat in La Paz.

We denounce to the international community that there is a coup d’état in Bolivia against our democratically-elected Government,” Choquehuanca expressed.

The attempted coup was unsuccessful. — NNN-ANDINA
