YANGON, Jun 26 (NNN-MNA) – A total of 984 people were killed, and 2,737 others injured, in 1,843 accidents, recorded across Myanmar between Jan and May this year, according to the Road Transport Administration Department, today.
The number of casualties in road accidents in the cited period is down compared to 1,162 deaths and 3,049 injuries, in 2,173 accidents that occurred in the same period a year earlier, the figures showed.
From Jan to May this year, Yangon Region reported the highest number of road accidents at 357, followed by Ayeyarwady Region with 303 and Bago Region with 257, showed the data.
Last year, a total of 4,772 traffic accidents occurred across the country, killing 2,422, and injuring 6,583, official data showed.– NNN-MNA
