LIMA June 25 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte on Monday paid tribute to the important work carried out by men and women in the countryside for Peru’s agrarian development, as Farmers’ Day is commemorated nationwide.
Via a message shared on the Presidential Office’s social media channels, the Head of State highlighted the global positioning of Peruvian products thanks to farmers’ efforts.
Likewise, the top official expressed her utmost recognition of the important work they do to foster the country’s agrarian wealth.
“This wealth, resulting from your work, ensures food security for over 33 million Peruvians and positions our country as one of the 10 main food suppliers worldwide,” she said.
Boluarte stated that her Government is committed to each and every farm worker, their efforts, and their development.
Therefore, she said, this administration works hand-in-hand with them to implement their business plans, strengthening their business management and providing them with the necessary tools so that they can become more competitive.
“Similarly, we boost the economic empowerment and autonomy of our rural and indigenous sisters, giving them the opportunity to consolidate their productive ventures,” she said.
“We want to see our agriculture shine, grant it the place it historically deserves and thereby foster the true development that our country demands,” she added.
In this regard, the top official expressed that her administration will continue fighting to preserve and optimally use water, unlocking large irrigation projects for agricultural lands.
Boluarte said this will be possible in unity, since it is the way to achieve the great objectives required by Peru and deserved by the following generations.
“Sisters and brothers, kuska, united in a single embrace, let us continue working to expand our agricultural frontier; that is our commitment and our dream. We are building a better country for all Peruvians. Happy Farmers’ Day, kausachun farmers of Peru,” she concluded.
Peruvian Farmers’ Day is celebrated every June 24 and has a history that dates back almost a century.
It was in May 1930 when President Augusto B. Leguia established Indian Day, with the purpose of highlighting the importance of farmers and indigenous people in the country.
However, it was in June 1969 —almost 40 years later— when General Juan Velasco Alvarado, who held the Presidency at that time, officialized Farmers’ Day through the enactment of the Agrarian Reform Law under Decree Law No. 17716.– NNN-ANDINA
