Tanzania: Mining commission targets 1tri/- collection

DAR ES SALAAM, June 24 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — Tanzania’s Mining Commission is gearing up to increase the revenue collection in a bid to attain 1.0tri/- target during the 2024/25 financial year, especially to boost its contribution to the government coffers.

Speaking during the management meeting of the commission held in Tanga Region, the Commission’s Executive Secretary Eng Yahya Samamba tasked the management staff to work proficiently with cooperation and solidarity in order to realise the goal.

The meeting was meant to assess the implementation of the commission’s activities during the 2023/24 fiscal year and strategize on implementation for the next year.

He said from July 1, 2023 to June 12, 2024, the commission managed to collect 703.9bn/- which is equivalent to 79.8 per cent of the target to collect 882.12bn/- during the 2023/24 financial year.

“For the ending year, we are on track; we have done excellently in revenue collection. However, we are required to make more efforts to attain the target of collecting 1tri/- during the forthcoming year,” Samamba stated.

He also urged the management staff to come up with tangible strategies to ensure that they address the loopholes leading to loss of revenue.

“Mining officers should be serious in ensuring that you control revenue loss loopholes in your areas so that you don’t face measures over failure to supervise the revenue,” he said.

He also urged the offices of the mining officers that failed to achieve the target during the current financial year to strategize on how to increase the revenue.

Samamba further directed them to be more creative to improve efficiency and performance.

“We are required to ensure the offices that we supervise embrace equality, cooperation and understanding among the staff. This will also make us achieve the target,” he stated. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
