HAVANA, June 24 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Data from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) show the recovery of tourism in Cuba, with 1,174,888 international visitors in the first five months of 2024.
According to the report, Canada maintained its status as the main issuing market, followed by the Cuban community abroad, the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom.
Compared to the same period in 2023, there were 30,954 more visitors, an increase of 102.7%, according to ONEI.
Travelers from Canada totaled 541,871 from January to May of this year, said the source, which also ranked Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Mexico among the main countries of origin.
After the pandemic impacts of Covid-19, the leisure industry in this Caribbean archipelago continues to show signs of revival, although it operates under abnormal conditions due to the unilateral restrictions imposed by the U.S. government.
In 2023, the sector recorded a 50% growth over the previous year, but without reaching the levels of tourists reached before the pandemic, official evaluations indicate. — NNN-ACN
