PANAMA CITY, June 21 ( NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Panama’s President-elect Jose Raul Mulino, who will take office on July 1, presented Thursday the most important work of his future administration: the train from Panama to David (Chiriqui).

On a press conference, the new president also announced that the person in charge of leading the construction of this railway project will be engineer Henry Faarup, a friend and man he trusts.

According to the plan for the new railroad, the route between Panama City and David, in the western end of Panama, would be completed in approximately two hours and 30 minutes, reaching a speed of up to 160 kilometers per hour, for passengers; and about 80 kilometers per hour in the case of freight trains.

It also transpired that a feasibility study revealed in 2019 details that the train could make up to four round trips daily to Santiago (capital of the neighboring province of Veraguas) and two to David (Chiriqui).

The train will have an eight-car passenger and freight line, capable of carrying approximately 750 passengers.

The line will have 21 stops and will extend 391.3 kilometers through the provinces of Panama, Cocle, Herrera, Veraguas and Chiriqui.

The construction of this mega infrastructure project is estimated to last six years and will generate up to 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. Once in operation, approximately 2,900 people will be required for its operation and maintenance. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
