Four In A Family Charred To Death In India’s Kerala

NEW DELHI, Jun 9 (NNN-PTI) – Four members of a family were charred to death yesterday, after a fire broke out inside their house, in the southern Indian state of Kerala, police said.

The fire broke out in the house at Angamaly in Ernakulam district, about 234 km north of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala.

“Early this morning (yesterday), a distress call about a fire inside a residential house was received at around 5:20 (local time), after which firefighters were rushed to the spot. The fire had broken out on the second floor of the house and four family members were found burnt to death,” a police official said. “The fire was completely doused and bodies were shifted from the house to a hospital for post-mortem examination.”

According to officials, the victims were identified as a couple in their forties and their two daughters aged eight and five.

The cause of the fire is being ascertained. However, preliminary investigations carried out by the police suggest that a short circuit might have caused the fire.

A case has been registered into the incident by police, and an investigation ordered.

Chances of fire in Indian houses are usually high, as people ignore safety standards and store combustible material haphazardly.– NNN-PTI
