RABAT, June 3 (NNN-XINHUA) — Moroccan police seized more than four tons of cannabis resin in an operation on Sunday in the country’s biggest city of Casablanca, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security said in a statement.
Authorities seized the drugs during a routine vehicle inspection at the city’s entrance, Moroccan online news website Hespress reported, citing an anonymous security source.
The source revealed that a judicial investigation was underway to apprehend individuals involved in the smuggling attempt and to uncover any additional connections related to the case.
The seizure is part of Morocco’s ongoing endeavors to combat drug trafficking, specifically focusing on cannabis resin, which is primarily produced in Morocco for distribution across Europe and the Middle East. — NNN-XINHUA
