JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Jun 2 (NNN-ANA) – At least eight people were killed and five others went missing, after a boat carrying 26 people capsized in a river, in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, a local official confirmed yesterday.
The accident occurred yesterday morning, when the boat sank, during a river crossing in Basol area of Momand Dara district, said Quraishi Badloon, head of the provincial information department.
Thirteen people were rescued, while five others remained missing. The passengers were mostly women and children.
According to Badloon, eight bodies have been recovered so far, and efforts were ongoing to retrieve the missing people.– NNN-ANA
