Man Dies Of Heatstroke In Indian Capital

NEW DELHI, May 31 (NNN-PTI) – A man from India’s eastern state of Bihar, died at a hospital in the national capital Delhi, after suffering a heatstroke, officials said yesterday.

The 40-year-old man hailing from Bihar’s Darbhanga was admitted to government-run Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, late Monday night.

According to doctors, he died due to multiple organ failure on Wednesday, after his body temperature rose to 42.2 degrees Celsius.

Reports said this is the first heatstroke death reported in Delhi, so far.– NNN-PTI

The capital territory is witnessing an unprecedented heatwave with record-breaking temperatures.

On Wednesday, amid a sweltering heat wave, Mungeshpur area in Delhi recorded its highest-ever temperature at 52.9 degrees Celsius.

Amid the heatwave, Delhi is also witnessing a shortage of drinking water along with an all-time high power demand.

The local government said it will implement a slew of measures, including rationing water supply and issuing fines for excessive use of water.

Large parts of India are presently in the grip of heatwave conditions, which severely impact people’s health and livelihoods.

On Tuesday, the local government of Rajasthan said six people were killed due to a prevailing severe heatwave in the state.
