COLOMBO, May 20 (NNN-XINHUA) – Following heavy rainfall that lashed Sri Lanka, the country’s National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), in its latest alert yesterday, warned of possible landslides.
The NBRO said, landslides are possible in some divisions of the districts of Badulla, Kegalle and Kandy in central Sri Lanka, and Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara of the Western Province.
It also warned people in the Ella division of the Badulla district, to be ready for evacuation, if necessary.
Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology, in its forecast yesterday, said, due to pre-monsoonal conditions over the country and surrounding sea areas, prevailing showery condition is likely to continue further.
It said, heavy showers above 150 mm are likely at some places in Western and North Western Provinces.
Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa Province and in Galle, Matara, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Mannar districts, according to the department.– NNN-XINHUA
