MOSCOW, May 8 (NNN-ACN) — Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and president of the country, arrived Tuesday in Russia for a working visit that will last until May 9, announced Cuban foreign ministry.
The head of state will carry out a program that includes meetings with the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and with other leaders of that country, as well as the participation, for the first time in person, in the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
Diaz-Canel will also attend the military parade and other activities commemorating the 79th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, in response to an invitation extended by his Russian counterpart.
According to the Cuban Presidency, the island’s delegation is also made up of Bruno Rodriguez, minister of foreign affairs, Emilio Lozada Garcia, head of the international relations department of the Central Committee of the PCC, Oscar Perez-Oliva Fraga, first deputy minister of foreign trade and investment, and Julio Garmendia Peña, ambassador accredited to Moscow.
The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, which will take place this Wednesday, May 8, is the highest level meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), an important regional economic integration bloc, of which Cuba has been an observer state since December 11, 2020.
This visit is part of the 64th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Russia, two countries that maintain historic friendship ties that have been deepening and expanding in many areas for the benefit of the development of both nations. — NNN-ACN
