LIMA, May 4 (NNN-ANDINA) — Mining exports from Peru amounted to US$3.223 billion last February, a 13.2% increase over the same month in 2023 (US$2.848 billion), the National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) reported.
According to this guild, mining exports in the first two months of this year reached US$6.319 billion, a 13.8% growth compared to the same period of 2023 (US$5.555 billion).
The SNMPE detailed that copper exports totaled US$1.650 billion last February, a figure that represented a 16.9% increase over the same month in 2023 (US$1.411 billion).
The growth in copper shipments recorded last February was because volume increased by 29.4%, despite the fact that the price of said metal decreased 9.6% compared to the same month last year.
The business guild indicated that gold exports reached US$998 million in February 2024 —an increase of 33.9% compared to the same month in 2023 (US$746 million).
Exports of this precious metal benefited from the increase in volume (+22.5%) and price (+9.3%) over the similar month in 2023.
Lastly, the SNMPE reported that copper shipments accounted for 51% of mining exports last February, followed by those of gold (31%) and iron (5%).
It must be noted that mining exports accounted for 62% of Peruvian product shipments abroad. — NNN-ANDINA
