HANOI, May 3 (NNN-VNA) – Vietnam will increase its electricity supply by 4.4 billion kWh, to 310.6 billion kWh, by increasing both domestic production and imports, Vietnam News reported today, citing the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s plan, this year.
The country needs to prepare 111.468 billion kWh for the dry season, which runs from Apr to Jul. This is a 2.3 billion kWh increase over the previous plan, said the report.
The ministry stated that, the Vietnamese economy was swiftly improving in the first quarter of this year, resulting in increased demand for power.
Electricity for daily activities is also expected to rise by 13.71 percent, due to persistent heat.
Aside from boosting transmission from the central region to the north, and storing water in hydropower reservoirs, Vietnam Electricity intends to deploy diesel-powered generators to increase electricity supply during emergency scenarios.
It has also devised two scenarios for electrical supply during the dry season, including increasing electricity imports from China and Laos.– NNN-VNA
