BISHKEK, Apr 25 (NNN-KNA) – Kyrgyzstan introduced emergency situation in three of its regions due to mudflows, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations, Urmatbek Shamyrkanov, told reporters on Tuesday.
At the same time, he clarified that, the special regime was not introduced in all the regions, but only in those places where mudslides occurred. In particular, an emergency situation was introduced in Osh and Jalal-Abad regions, in the south of Kyrgyzstan, and Talas region, in the north-west of the country.
Shamyrkanov said that, about 50 mudflows occurred across the country, since Apr 20, due to heavy rains. As a result, more than 200 residential buildings and 300 courtyards, several schools and social facilities were flooded. In addition, mudflows covered roads and bridges.
Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that in Nooken district of Jalal-Abad region, water broke through an anti-mudflow dam, as a result, residents of 300 houses were evacuated. In Kara-Kuldja district of Osh region, a mudflow carried away a car, resulting in the death of one person.
Meanwhile, Presidential Press Secretary, Askat Alagozov, said that, assistance will be provided to those affected by the mudflows. He said that, there are cases of damage to buildings and courtyard areas due to mudflows, but this is not large-scale.
“In other words, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Transport and other government agencies, have enough forces and technical means to eliminate the consequences of mudflows. According to the instructions by President Sadyr Japarov, after the Ministry of Emergency Situations determines the amount of damage caused by the disaster, citizens will be provided with appropriate assistance,” Alagozov noted.– NNN-KNA
