TOKYO, Apr 17 (NNN-NHK) – Two burned human corpses were found yesterday, near a river, in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, and police are probing the case as suspected incident of corpse abandonment, local media reported.
The bodies were found in a mountainous area dotted with houses, some 10 km from the town centre of Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture. The identities and genders are not yet known, Kyodo News reported, citing the local police.
According to the prefectural police, a passerby saw “there are what appear to be mannequins on fire” at around 6:50 a.m. local time and reported the incident to the local forestry cooperative.
The forestry cooperative’s official called the police, who then arrived on the scene and confirmed they were human bodies.
Tochigi Prefectural Police suspected the pair were victims of a crime, and were investigating the case on suspicion of abandonment of corpses, with a plan to assign about 80 investigators to the case.– NNN-NHK
