KOTA DAMANSARA, Selangor , April 15 (Bernama) — The Old Frees Association, comprised of alumni from Penang Free School students in Singapore, has collected donations for the family of Tan Sri P. Ramlee. Apart from the alumni several prominent personalities such as the Honorable George Yeo, former foreign minister of Singapore and prominent architect and scholar Professor Tay Kheng Soon, have also contributed to the donation. Recognising the contribution of the legendry Tan Sri P. Ramlee, a singer, actor, composer and director, who was also an alumnus from Penang Free School, the Old Frees Association based in Singapore has decided to initiate this donation as a token of appreciation for Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s descendants.
This donation was entrusted to Yusmadi Yusoff, former senator and member of Parliament of Balik Pulau, and currently Chairman of Encorp Berhad (ENCORP). Pursuant to that, ENCORP who believes in the role of culture in development and promoting understanding amongst people in this country and the region, also contributed RM2,000, making the donation total RM4,100.
