5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Hit Japan’s Miyazaki Prefecture

TOKYO, Apr 8 (NNN-NHK) – An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2, struck the southern Japanese prefecture of Miyazaki, the weather agency said today.

The temblor occurred at 10:25 a.m. local time, at a depth of 40 km, measuring lower 5 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale, which peaks at 7, said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The epicentre was located off the eastern Osumi Peninsula, at a latitude of 31.6 degrees north, and a longitude of 131.5 degrees east.

The earthquake also logged 4 on the seismic scale in multiple regions of Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures, said the JMA.

With no tsunami threat from the earthquake, no casualties have been reported so far.– NNN-NHK
