NEW DELHI, Apr 7 (NNN-PTI) – Three Naxals were killed in a fierce gunfight with government forces yesterday, in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said.
The gunfight between Naxals and contingents of the police, broke out in the dense Dolliguda jungles, in the Bijapur district of the state.
According to the police, the gunfight broke out as the police forces were in a search operation in the area.
“Today (yesterday), an exchange of fire between Naxals and police broke out near the Dolliguda jungles of the Usoor Police station area. During the stand-off, three Naxals were killed,” a police official said. “From the spot three assault rifles and a huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered.”
Officials said, the police contingents have reported no casualties.
In the last 10 days, 14 Naxals were killed in two similar gunfights in the state.
Currently, Naxals are active across the central and eastern parts of India.
The Naxal insurgency reportedly has claimed hundreds of lives, besides displacing thousands of poor inhabitants.– NNN-PTI
