Over One Million Stimulant Tablets Seized In Central Myanmar

YANGON, Apr 1 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar’s authorities seized over one million stimulant tablets, in the central region of Myanmar, according to a statement by the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) late yesterday.

Acting on a tipoff, anti-narcotic police searched a motorcycle in Kyaukchaw Village, in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region, on March 23, and seized 40,000 stimulant tablets, along with two suspects.

Additionally, 5,800 stimulant tablets were seized from two suspects’ houses in Mandalay region, 100,000 tablets were seized in Patheingyi Township last Tuesday, and 860,000 stimulant tablets were seized in Pyigyitagon Township last Wednesday.

The total value of the seized drugs is worth two billion kyats (about 952,000 U.S. dollars).

The investigation revealed that the seized drugs were being transported from Shan State to the Mandalay Region.

The suspects involved in the cases were charged under the country’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, it said.– NNN-MNA
