GUATEMALA CITY, March 30 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The number of 19,337 nationals who were deported to Guatemala by air from the United States so far shows an increase of 69.2 percent compared to the first quarter of 2023, according to official data.
The entity dedicated to the issue stated that the leading cause lies in the irregular status of those people. According to the statistics, the number of flights also increased.
“Deportations will increase both from Mexico and the United States because the number of people is very significant,” analyst Fernando Castro told reporters.
The Guatemalan Migration Institute and more than 14 institutions, agencies, and international organizations are assisting the deportees. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
