BANGKOK, March 25 (Bernama) — The Thai Red Cross Society handed over humanitarian assistance for the people of Myanmar to the Myanmar Red Cross Societies on Monday, as part of an effort to enhance support for those affected along the border of both countries.
The handover ceremony was held on the Thai side of the second Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, Mae Sot, Tak Province, Thailand Monday and was witnessed by Vice Minister for Thailand’s Foreign Ministry, Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
Thailand’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said the humanitarian assistance included over 4,000 relief bags, carrying rice, dried food, and other essentials for about 20,000 people.
The ministry said the handover of humanitarian assistance is a bilateral initiative between Thailand and Myanmar to meet the needs of the displaced people in Myanmar.
“As a close neighbour of Myanmar, Thailand is strongly committed to doing everything that is possible to help the people affected by the conflict in Myanmar without discrimination,” it said.
“This pilot project symbolises the goodwill from the Thai people to the Myanmar people,” said the ministry.
