5.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hit Off Central Indonesia

JAKARTA, Mac 24 (NNN-ANTARA) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8, jolted off East Nusa Tenggara province, in central Indonesia today, the country’s meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency said.

The earthquake rocked at 10:04 a.m. Jakarta time (0304 GMT), with its epicentre located 128 km south-east of Ende Regency, and a depth of 41 km under the seabed, the agency said. It earlier issued the magnitude of the quake at 6.1 before revising it.

The intensity of the quake was felt at IV MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity) in Ende regency, and III to IV MMI in Waingapu town and Flores Timur regency, it added.

The agency did not issue a tsunami warning as the tremors would not potentially trigger giant waves.– NNN-ANTARA
