QUITO, March 23 (NNN-XINHUA) — The son of Ecuadorian Vice President Veronica Abad was arrested on charges of influence peddling, the Attorney General’s Office said.
Francisco Sebastian Barreiro Abad was arrested on Thursday as part of an investigation, and following several raids by its Transparency and Fight Against Corruption Unit in the capital of Quito and the city of Cuenca, the office said on X, formerly Twitter.
He was arrested “for his alleged participation in the investigated event,” said the office.
The vice president has been in Israel’s Tel Aviv since last December when she flew in after Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa appointed her “Ambassador of Peace” to Israel. — NNN-XINHUA
