Egypt Supports Yemen To End Coup, Restore State: Ambassador

CAIRO, Egypt, May 23 (NNN-MENA) – Yemen’s Ambassador to Cairo, Mohammed Ali Maram, lauded Egypt’s role, headed by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, in backing the legitimacy in Yemen to end the coup and restore the Yemeni state.

During an Egyptian-Yemeni seminar held in the presence of many Egyptian high-level officials, Maram praised Egypt for welcoming the Yemeni people, in light of the hard circumstances witnessed by the Yemeni state, due to the coup carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militias.

“Egypt has been the big homeland that welcomes all Arabs in all circumstances of peace and war,” Maram said.

Concerning the Yemeni situation, Maram commented on the Houthis’ withdrawal from Hudeydah port, which comes as part of a UN-brokered ceasefire.

Maram reiterated his government’s mistrust of the act, who earlier described such move as only a “play.”

The Houthis and the government forces loyal to Yemeni President, Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, agreed to withdraw from the port of Hudeydah to allow humanitarian aid to enter.

Yemeni Information Minister, Muammar al-Iryani, said, the Houthi militia attempts to mislead the international community, affirming his government’s rejection of unilateral steps taken without allowing monitoring and verification procedures and delivering the maps of mines planted by the Houthis.

More than 70,200 died in the war between Jan, 2016, and Apr 13, 2019, according to data collected by the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED).– NNN-MENA
