HAVANA, March 6 (NNN-ACN) — United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned about the fast deterioration of the safety conditions in the Haitian capital Port au Prince, amidst intensification of gang violence.
A communique issued by UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric conveyed Guterres’ concern about the increase of violence and aggression against police stations and two penitentiaries.
The spokesperson insisted in the need to an urgent action to financially support a multinational mission, which was approved to assist the urgent safety demands of the Haitian people and prevent the country to further plunge into more chaos.
Guterres asked the Haitian government and other political circles to reach accord on the necessary measures to advance the political process towards the reestablishment of democratic institutions through and electoral process. — NNN-ACN
