JAKARTA, Mac 2 (NNN-ANTARA) – A 5.3-magnitude earthquake rocked off Indonesia’s eastern province of Highland Papua yesterday, the country’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, said.
The on-land quake occurred at 22 km south-east of Yahukimo regency, at 14:06 p.m. local time (0706 GMT), with a depth of 10 km, the agency said.
Indonesia, an archipelago made of thousands of islands, is prone to earthquakes for its position on the vulnerable quake-hit zone called “the Pacific Ring of Fire.”– NNN-ANTARA
