Brazil passes 1 mln cases of dengue fever

BRASILIA, March 1 (NNN-XINHUA) — Brazil has registered a total of 1,017,278 probable cases of dengue fever and 214 confirmed deaths from the disease, while another 687 deaths are under investigation, according to the latest report by the Health Ministry.

The incidence rate of dengue fever in the South American country is currently 501 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Brazil could see twice as many cases of dengue fever this year as in 2023, when 1,658,816 cases were recorded, Health Minister Nisia Trindade said.

According to the World Health Organization, since 2009, the global incidence of dengue has grown drastically, spreading to many areas previously unaffected by the disease. — NNN-XINHUA
