HAVANA, Feb 28 (NNN-ACN) — Jamaican authorities returned 10 Cuban irregular migrants to the country onboard a commercial flight on Feb 24, the Cuban Interior Ministry (MININT) announced.
The group was brought to the Antonio Maceo International Airport in eastern Santiago de Cuba. The Cuban nationals, all residents of Granma province next to Santiago, had attempted an illegal departure towards the Cayman Islands, but the bad weather took them to Jamaica where they were intercepted, the announcement reads.
Last Feb 22, another commercial flight from the Cayman Islands brought four irregular Cuban migrants, taking to eight the number of such operations from that territory.
In all, 257 Cuban irregulars have been returned this year in 21 operations.
Cuban authorities have reiterated their commitment to a safe and orderly migration. — NNN-ACN
