OUAGADOUGOU, Feb 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) –At least 15 civilians were killed and two others injured in a terrorist attack at a Catholic church in northern Burkina Faso on Sunday.

Priest of Dori diocese, Mr. Jean-Pierre Sawadogo, said the terrorist attack targeted the Catholic community in the village of Essakane, while they were gathering for prayer.

This is the latest in a series of atrocities allegedly carried out by militant groups operating in the area.

Burkina Faso is part of the vast Sahel region, which has been locked in a battle against rising violent extremism since Libya’s 2011 civil war, followed by a rebel takeover. — NNN-AGENCIES
