LIMA, Feb 18 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peru’s traditional and non-traditional exports accumulated their third consecutive growth year in 2023, driven by higher shipments and by prices, respectively, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.
“Sales abroad of traditional products reached a total of US$48.6 billion in 2023, which implied a 1.8% rise compared to 2002. This result was driven by higher shipments of mining products (+11.6%) abroad,” the BCR explained.
The issuing entity reported that non-traditional exports amounted to US$18.424 billion, a value that implied an 1.1% increase year-on-year, driven by higher farming product prices (+11%).
At the level of shipments by value, frozen giant squid experienced the highest annual growth (+37.5%), favored by weather conditions in the first half; followed by fresh grapes (+28.1%) and blueberries (+23.6%). Both products were the main exports in 2023.
“Besides, the United States remained the main destination for non-traditional products; those with the greatest growth were China (higher sales of seafood products) and the rest of Asia such as Hong Kong,“ the BCR pointed out.
