Tanzania: State commits to ending power rationing by March

DODOMA, Feb 17 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — The country’s power rationing issue will be effectively addressed by the end of March this year, lawmakers told.

The Deputy Minister for Energy, Judith Kapinga made this statement earlier on Friday in the Dodoma parliament, stating that as of February 15th this year, they have successfully initiated trials for plant number 9 at the Julius Nyerere Hydro Power Project (JNHPP).

He added that in March of this year, plant number 8 will be switched on, resulting in all plants being able to generate 370 megawatts of electricity.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr Tulia Ackson, stated that Bunge has given the government until June this year to ensure that the power rationing challenge is permanently addressed. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
