At Least One Killed, Multiple Injured After Vehicle Crashed Into Hospital In Texas

HOUSTON, Feb 15 (NNN-XINHUA) – At least one was killed and multiple were injured, after a vehicle crashed into an emergency room in Austin, the capital city of the U.S. state of Texas, said media reports.

The vehicle crashed into the emergency room at St. David’s North Austin Medical Centre around 17:36 local time (2336 GMT), yesterday, Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) said on Facebook.

ATCEMS said, among the injured, a child and an adult were in critical condition.

The medical agency initially reported that at least 10 people were transported to hospitals, and one adult was administered CPR at the scene. It later said that two children and two adults were transported to area hospitals.

Dr. Peter D. Young, chief medical officer of St. David’s North Austin Medical Centre, said at a news briefing that, the driver was given CPR but eventually was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

Austin’s officials believe the incident that injured 10 to 12 people appeared to be an accident, in which a motorist drove into the emergency room, according to local media KVUE.

“There is no threat to the general public. Based on preliminary information and details gathered at this time, this incident does not appear to be an intentional act,” the Austin Police Department said on social media.

St. David’s North Austin Medical Centre is a 441-bed multi-specialty, acute care facility, dedicated to women’s health services, including maternity and newborn care and featuring a 24-hour emergency department, according to its website.– NNN-XINHUA
