LIMA, Feb 9 (NNN-ANDINA) — Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews affirmed that productive activities comprising the export and tourism sectors generated 5.5 million direct and indirect jobs.

“Both exports and tourism created 5.5 million direct and indirect jobs,” he said in statements to TVPeru.

He remarked that both sectors are quite powerful, as they operate in a completely decentralized manner and involve a broad participation of micro and small-sized enterprises (MSEs).

“We love working there because we can see the impact on populations, communities, and ordinary citizens,” he explained.

On the other hand, the minister noted that China has become the main destination for Peruvian exports over the past nine years.

“China has become the principal destination (for Peruvian exports) in the last nine years. It has gone from buying only minerals and fish meal to now also buying fresh fruits, vegetables, and frozen fish,” he commented.

Likewise, the Cabinet member highlighted that Peru has opened a wide variety of markets for shipments abroad in contrast with important economies such as the United States.

“An advantage enjoyed by Peru is the fact that the cake is fairly well distributed, because the rest (of exports) is divided in an equitable manner in Europe, North America, and Latin America. There are countries that depend on a single market,” he pointed out.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), grapes, blueberries and organic bananas of Peruvian origin remain at the top of preferences in the export market. — NNN-ANDINA
