Two Persons Died Of Monkeypox Fever In South India

NEW DELHI, Feb 6 (NNN-PTI) – At least two persons have died, due to monkeypox fever in India’s southern state of Karnataka, so far this year, said media reports, yesterday.

The two deceased were identified as an 18-year-old girl and a 79-year-old man. At present there are a total of 49 positive cases in the state, said an online report by the Hindustan Times.

The disease, which is also known as Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), is a viral hemorrhagic disease that was first identified in 1957, in the Kyasanur Forest in the Western Ghats of India.– NNN-PTI
