Cuba dismissed the Minister of Economy and Planning and reshuffled the cabinet

HAVANA, Feb 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has dismissed Minister of Economy and Planning Alejandro Gil after many incidents delayed the country’s plan to increase fuel prices and public transport services.

Cuba’s State Council then unanimously appointed Minister-Governor of the State Bank of Cuba (BCC) Joaquín Alonso Vázquez, 60 years old, as Minister of Economy, replacing Alejandro Gil.

According to the official announcement, Vázquez holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Credit, a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management, and many years of experience.

Meanwhile, the position of Minister-Governor of BCC will be held by Juana Lilia Delgado, Bachelor of International Economic Relations.

Also on Feb 2, National Assembly delegate and President of the Cuban Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Group (BioCubaFarma) Eduardo Martínez was appointed Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, replacing Elba Rosa. Pérez has held this position for more than 11 years.

National Assembly delegate, Governor of Central Province Villa Clara Alberto López was appointed Minister of Food Industry, replacing Manuel Santiago Sobrino.

The Cuban State Council acknowledged the efforts, dedication and sense of responsibility of the recently relieved officials, and said it would soon assign new tasks to these officials.

Cuba will launch a series of large-scale economic adjustment programs in the coming months to implement plans to overcome difficulties and promote economic development in 2024. — NNN-AGENCIES
