LIMA, Feb 2 (NNN=ANDINA) —Pres Dina Boluarte on Thursday reaffirmed her Government’s firm intention to eradicate forced labor, and called on the population to report these types of situations by calling Line 1819.

Forced labor is a scourge that we cannot tolerate in society. The Government reaffirms its firm intention to work for its eradication from the country,” she stated.

Boluarte indicated that, in order to make progress on this task, an intersectoral protocol was approved that establishes a roadmap aimed at confronting forced labor, with a focus on victims, and that marks the beginning of a coordinated and effective strategy.

The top official indicated that Line 1819 was launched, a vital resource to serve those who are at risk of falling into situations of forced labor.

This ceremony took place at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

This line is intended to provide assistance to the citizens who require so. Similarly, it serves as a means to identify and prevent such cases.“Let’s not forget the number 1819; let’s pick up the phone and make that call; everyone will be taken care of,” she said.

The Head of State asserted that events such as the dramatic fire that occurred in Las Malvinas commercial area in 2017, where young citizens who had been locked up by their employers died, must never occur again.

“Those types of situations must never happen again,” she underlined.

Within this framework, Boluarte highlighted the commitment by Peru’s high authorities who joined the “Pacto Unidos contra el Trabajo Forzoso” (United Against Forced Labor Pact), such as the Judiciary, the Public Ministry, the Ombudsman’s Office, and the International Labour Organization for the Andean countries.

The Pact is a proof that we stand united in the determination to put an end to the despicable practice of forced labor; it is essential that everyone joins in this fight; I celebrate the support and commitment of those who have decided to join this noble and urgent cause,” she stated.

Boluarte specified that the Government will not cease its articulated work to put an end to this scourge nor will its spare efforts to combat it in all its forms. — NNN-ANDINA
