MUMBAI, India, May 18 (NNN-PTI) – India’s western state of Maharashtra has directed food delivery service companies, to conduct a medical examination of their delivery boys.
According to the state’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials, as part of precautionary measures, an order has been issued to ensure that food is being handled by delivery boys who are not suffering from any disease.
“We have issued orders to all the online food portals to conduct mandatory health check-up of the food delivery boys,” said a Mumbai-based official from the FDA department.
Online food service has been rapidly growing in India with firms like Zomato, Swiggy, Foodpanda among several others that have been mushrooming across the country.
According to a study, the online food service market, in Asia’s third largest economy, is estimated at 1.62 billion US dollars annually, and expected to double its size by the end of next year. The country, with 1.3 billion people, has 100,000 restaurants, according to the National Restaurant Association.– NNN-PTI
