Two Missing In S. Korea’s Fishing Boat Sinking Incident

SEOUL, Jan 28 (NNN-YONHAP) – A small fishing boat sank, off South Korea’s southern resort island of Jeju, leaving two of the three crew members missing, the coast guard was cited as saying.

The Jeju maritime traffic control centre received a call at around 9:52 p.m. local time last night (1252 GMT), that the 4.11-tonne fishing boat was being inundated by water, some 18.5 km south of the island.

The vessel was believed to have sunk, as the hull was not visible when the coast guard arrived at the scene.

On board the ill-fated vessel were one South Korean captain and two Indonesian sailors, one of whom was rescued by a nearby fishing boat while drifting at sea.

The rescued sailor was taken to a hospital for treatment, as he suffered hypothermia.

The coast guard mobilised 10 patrol boats and rescue teams in cooperation with the navy and civilian fishing boats, but no other crew member was rescued.

It planned to continue its search and rescue operation.– NNN-YONHAP
