Canada’s participation in Chavimochic Project will contribute to closing gaps in Peru

LIMA, Jan 28 (NNN-ANDINA) — Canada’s participation in the development of Chavimochic Project’s third stage will contribute to boosting economic development in Peru, as well as to closing gaps existing in the South American country, Canadian Ambassador to Lima, Louis Marcotte, said.

During a Spanish-language interview with Andina news agency, the diplomat highlighted the awarding of the bid to Canada for the development of said irrigation project.

The envoy added that his country relies on the necessary experience to bring this project to a successful conclusion.

Marcotte stressed that in Canada “there are engineering companies, with plenty of experience, with very good reputation,” which will also be allowed to participate in other projects in Peru besides Chavimochic.

“Many of them already have a presence here in Peru’s mining sector, and they employ hundreds of Peruvians,” he indicated.

He said that the aforementioned irrigation project for agribusiness “is a good example of what can be done from government to government so as to close some gaps and boost economic development.”

Likewise, he underscored that in the contract signing by Peru and Canada a sovereign guarantee will be established to ensure the execution of said project.

He deemed this as an additional advantage, since it will ensure that projects are executed according to the established terms.

On Jan 16, the envelopes containing proposals for the awarding of Chavimovic project were opened. The most convenient option for Peru on this matter came from Canada.

“I like to say that Canada is important for the prosperity of Peru, but also that Peru is important for the prosperity of Canada,” he pointed out.

Marcotte mentioned that six Canadian companies are working in Peru, operating nine mines and developing 20 exploration projects in this sector.

The latter is important —he noted— since without this first phase of said activity “there is no future” for the continuity of the extraction of certain minerals. — NNN-ANDINA
