Death Toll Rises To Six In Gas Tanker Explosion In Mongolia

ULAN BATOR, Jan 27 (NNN-APA) – One more death was reported, following a recent gas tanker explosion here in the Mongolian capital, bringing the total death toll to six, the National Trauma and Orthopedic Research Centre said today.

“Unfortunately, a citizen with burns of over 80-90 percent of the body, due to the explosion, died last night at the hospital,” the centre said in a statement.

A tanker reportedly carrying 60 tonnes of liquefied natural gas exploded at an intersection, in the south-eastern district of Bayanzurkh, in the capital, at around 1:07 a.m. Wednesday, local time (1707 GMT Tuesday) due to a vehicle crash.

More than 10 others were injured during the explosion, and some of them are in critical condition, according to the centre.

Over 30 vehicles were burned, and several nearby buildings partially collapsed, due to the explosion, the country’s National Emergency Management Agency said.

An investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.– NNN-APA
