HAVANA, Jan 27 (NNN-ACN) — A group of 16 results achieved in 2023 by the Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies (AENTA by its Spanish acronym) for their contribution to knowledge and some in collaboration with the Russian Federation and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Biocompatible carbon nanoparticles encapsulated with metal ions for the enhancement of magnetic resonance imaging, from the Center for Advanced Studies, was among the most outstanding that received mention at the institution’s annual meeting.
Also, advanced methodologies and tools for combined studies of the positron emission tomography and computed tomography system that will contribute to the development of new drugs in Cuba, by the Isotope and Technological Applications and Nuclear Development Centers.
The authors of other achievements stood out for their development or assimilation of technologies, and for their contribution to economic and social impact, it was reported at the meeting held at the Tryp Havana Libre Hotel, despite the limitations and scarcity of material resources, mainly caused by the perennial harassment of the U.S. government.
In this regard, Jose Fidel Santana Nunez, Deputy Prime Minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA by its Spanish acronym), called attention to the fact that in order to overcome obstacles it is essential to seek greater integration and exchange with the 12 AENTA centers and other specialized centers in the country.
The Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies, attached to CITMA, is the focal point for collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
It manages projects and provides scientific and technological services and high value-added products related to nuclear technologies, renewable energy sources and other advanced technologies that contribute to the sustainable development of the country. — NNN-ACN
