LIMA, Jan 27 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte on Friday indicated that the process which led to establishing the delimitation of the Peru-Chile maritime border must serve to build and consolidate a future of unity and peace across the region.

During the commemorative event for the 10th anniversary of the ruling on this issue by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague, the Head of State reminded citizens that “peace is what nations demand.”

“Peace brings progress for everyone,” Boluarte emphasized.

“We must make the most of this opportunity to build and consolidate a future of unity and peace,” she said.

Boluarte out that, after this Peru-Chile border dispute was settled, a fishery development center consolidated in our country’s southern area.

“It was possible to attract new investments,” the president noted as well, since a situation of stability was generated once the aforementioned dispute had concluded.

“The population of the south has benefited from the clear delimitation,” she pointed out.

This has also “allowed access to new fishing spaces,” Boluarte underlined. Similarly, she affirmed that all of this has increased investment and cooperation between Peru and Chile.

In that sense, the president underscored that “in times of conflicts that drive countries apart, Peru and Chile are a clear and firm example that controversies can be resolved peacefully.”

This marked a new stage in our bilateral relationship, guiding it towards building an environment of mutual trust and cooperation, in addition to allowing us to face a joint outreach into the future, the top official highlighted.

The prompt compliance and implementation of The Hague Court ruling has been and is a precedent of great value in the international community, because it proves the responsibility and maturity of our countries as global actors committed to an international order based on rules.”

At this event, former Minister Allan Wagner and other personalities who also participated in this process from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Peruvian Navy, and the legal sphere.
