MADRID (Spain), Jan 26 (NNN-ANDINA) — Within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2024, Peru signed an agreement with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) to craft a tourism sector investment guide, as well as a management plan for Machu Picchu.

Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews explained that the tourism investment guide will contribute to relying on a projects portfolio to be showcased to potential investors in the field.

Similarly it will serve Peruvian companies that have a project and need a partner to move it forward.

“Therefore, it is a guide that will help us sell investment opportunities (available) in Peru’s tourism sector,” Mathews told Andina news agency.

Secondly, he said an agreement was reached to finance a management plan for Machu Picchu and other tourist destinations in the South American country.

“For many (people) abroad, it is a surprise that there is so little flow of tourists compared to what is seen in Cairo, at the Roman Colosseum, or the Taj Mahal,” Mathews expressed.

The management plan involves controlling various aspects such as capacity, protection of fauna and flora, or governance, always guaranteeing the protection of cultural heritage.

In turn, CAF’s Corporate Vice-President of Strategic Programming Christian Asinelli highlighted that technical cooperation has been thought of to work better and make the most of the immense potential that an area as important as Machu Picchu has for the entire Latin American and Caribbean zone.

Besides, the CAF officer forecast that the guide could be ready in four or five months so that the general public can take advantage of it.

Fitur 2024 —which will take place until Jan 28 in Madrid, Spain— is the meeting point for tourism sector professionals and the general public interested in learning about the offered destinations.

The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru) reported that 32 Peruvian companies from the sector and six trade associations participate in this important international event. — NNN-ANDINA
