Mongolians Take Measures To Protect Wildlife From Harsh Winter

ULAN BATOR, Jan 23 (NNN-APA) – Mongolians are taking measures, to help wild animals survive the extreme wintry weather, the country’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism said, today.

For example, a state-owned coal mining company, Erdenes Tavantolgoi, has recently placed a hundred bales of hay in Khanginakhiin Khad, in the southern province of Umnugovi, to help wild animals survive the harsh winter, the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, 200 kilograms of salt licks have been provided to wildlife in Ider Soum of the western province of Zavkhan.

Harsh weather conditions have become a big challenge for livestock and wild animals this winter, according to the ministry.

According to the country’s weather monitoring agency, almost all provinces of Mongolia have experienced extreme weather conditions this winter, and around 90 percent of the country has been blanketed with snow up to 60 centimetres thick.– NNN-APA
