Brazil: Pres Lula to hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister

BRASILIA, Jan 20 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yim, during his trip to the state of Ceará, in order to strengthen relations between both countries.

The Poder360 website reported that one of the main topics to be discussed at the meeting will be the position of the Brazilian Government regarding the separatist movement in Taiwan. According to the site, Lula da Silva’s government adheres to the “one China” principle.

Officially, the objective of the meeting between Lula and Wang in Fortaleza, capital of Ceará, is to boost relations between the two countries, resumed in April when Lula visited Beijing.

On that occasion, Lula spoke with Xi Jinping to mend ties with China after the conflicts between the two countries during the mandate of Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022).

The Chinese Foreign Ministry explained that the trip of its head of diplomacy should now serve to “strengthen mutual trust” between nations and “deepen friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.”

The Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, received Wang on Thursday in Brasilia and will also speak with his counterpart this Friday to address bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and science, technology and innovation. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
